Our social impact and health and safety improvement Mission Statement

We are dedicated to caring for the people working in our industry, as well as the wider New Zealand public, and realise that the traditional reactive recruitment models used currently by the majority in our market are not productive towards putting our workers first.

There will always be a place for traditional short term on‑hire labour supply; however, most on‑hire staff require agencies to locate long term opportunities that suit their skillset. The reactive short fill type model does not promote safer worksites and does not offer career pathways for workers on site.

OneScope pledges to change that, by working with large‑scale projects and their stakeholders to identify specific labour requirements from the planning stage and then working ahead to locate the best possible candidates and having them equipped and ready to work on the date required.

Our recruitment and service plan will ensure we can offer motivated unskilled staff for apprentice schemes, the best local skilled labour, relocate skilled labour from other regions around the country and, if need be, reach further afield and relocate highly skilled migrant workers. Our proactive approach will mean you have the labour you require from the specified date until the end of the project, reducing on-site skill shortages and offering great social outcome opportunities for unskilled staff to learn from the best.

Encompassing our values and ensuring the best possible work environment for our on‑hire staff, our commitment to health and safety is the cornerstone to our group.

On‑hire workers are statistically more likely to have a near miss or injure themselves on construction sites in New Zealand, and although we cannot foresee accidents before they happen, we can implement better processes prior to workers arriving to site, proactively gaining our on‑hire staff safety certifications related to their role, as well as adopting new technologies that enable more clarity at ground level.

OneScope agency members want to shoulder the responsibility of health and safety and social outcome objectives equally with our clients, ensuring that we are supporting them and our staff with the highest commitment possible. We are ready to adapt to the needs of each project and take pride in professionally reporting our successes and learnings week to week.

Our project sustainability Mission Statement

In every aspect of our approach to any project we supply labour to, we take into consideration how we can best be complementing the sustainability of the project.

Our focus is to involve sustainability in every decision-making process across the social, human, environmental and economical spectrums.

Making sustainability a priority in all aspects of our approach is something we are proud of and we genuinely enjoy the challenge of identifying opportunities to improve day to day.

→ Social sustainability

Commitment to opening career pathways for Māori, Pacifica, youth and females in construction:

→ Each project OneScope is engaged to supply to will have strict requirements for each agency to provide social outcome-positive candidates for applicable roles.

→ Human sustainability

Protecting the well-being of our workers and their mental and physical health is practiced both internally and through professional services and financial support:

→ All eligible on‑hire workers provided through OneScope will be offered a base health insurance plan as part of their standard remuneration, and free access to EAP Services through one of our industry supply partners (as do all internal agency staff on each project).

→ Environmental sustainability

In line with the customs and values of tikanga Māori, our effect on all aspects of the earth whilst we go about our jobs is an everyday priority, and most likely the first aspect of our sustainability plan to be discussed as preparation begins well before our workers arrive to site:

→ Each of the large infrastructure projects our agency partners supply labour to are in various locations and have their own environmental challenges. For each project we educate our workers around the expectations specific to the area they are working in, with a focus to leave the surrounding area in the same or better condition they found it in.

→ Economical sustainability

Our commitment to ensuring our clients and our agency members generate profit and growth is paramount to how we operate. Managing our sustainable profile does come with its costs; however, with an innovative approach we can account for our sustainability through efficiency and technology:

→ Utilising technology, such as our GPS worker management system, allows our clients to be confident they are not losing money on ‘dead time’ and have relevant data available. We can reduce our agency members’ on-costs through group buying power and supply partner discounts on worker PPE, training costs, tooling and, where applicable, worker accommodation.
